Battle Ground offers full-day kindergarten, online enrollment

March 31, 2016

Enrollment is open for full-day kindergarten

Questions? Please visit your primary school during kindergarten roundup week, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. April 18-22.

Learn which school your child will attend on our boundaries page.

Battle Ground Public Schools is offering state-funded, full-day kindergarten at all its primary schools and Maple Grove K-8 school beginning with the 2016-17 school year, one year ahead of the state's requirement for schools to offer full-day programs. Parents and guardians can enroll their children online now.

Any child who will be five years old before Sept. 1, 2016 is eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall. Parents can find out which school their child will attend by using the district's online boundary map or by calling the district boundaries office at (360) 885-6577.

Battle Ground Public Schools is implementing full-day kindergarten at all its primary schools so that students can benefit from the advantages of a developmentally appropriate, full-day program. “Education builds each year, and it is important that we give students every opportunity to be successful," said Mark Ross, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. “Full-day kindergarten gives our students a stronger foundation equal to surrounding districts. This foundation is beneficial to their overall educational experience." Full-day kindergarten has been increasingly recognized as a valuable program for school and life success.

The Battle Ground Public Schools Board of Directors held work sessions and requested the district determine how it could implement full-day kindergarten at all the district's primary schools. To accommodate full-day kindergarten, two schools will have modular buildings constructed on the campuses this summer, and the district is reconfiguring existing space at other schools to add the necessary classrooms. Maple Grove K-8 began offering the state-funded, full-day program this year.

Also new this year, parents can enroll their students online. Battle Ground Public Schools uses Skyward (Family Access) to enroll students via the web. Instructions and links for online enrollment are on the district's website. Battle Ground has implemented online enrollment to make the process more efficient for both families and school staff.

During the online enrollment process, families have the opportunity to attach required documentation to the online application. Required documentation includes verification of the child's birth date (such as a birth certificate) and immunization records. Families who do not have access to a photo or scan of required documents will need to bring copies of the documents to their child's school.

School offices will be open 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. the week of April 18-22 for kindergarten roundup so that parents can have their questions answered and bring required documentation to their child's school. Parents should note that schools will be closed April 4-8 for spring break.

School will begin next year on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Battle Ground Public Schools. Key dates for the 2016-17 school year, including breaks and holidays, is available on the district website.
