BGPS Events Honor Veterans

BGPS EVENTs honor veterans

October 25, 2016



Battle Ground Public Schools' students and staff will honor veterans during school events, including assemblies and a panel for high school students. Community members and veterans are invited to attend. Schools will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. Events will be held at:

Primary Schools

Daybreak Primary: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10:15 a.m. Primary students will sing songs in honor of veterans. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to call the front office at (360) 885-6950 in advance.
Glenwood Heights Primary: Assemblies on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. The school will have two performances featuring the school choir, and veterans in attendance will be honored.
Maple Grove: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
Pleasant Valley Primary: Assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 9:45 a.m. in the large gym. 
Tukes Valley Primary: Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Second graders will be performing and presenting.
Yacolt Primary: On Wednesday, Nov. 9, fourth graders will perform at a student assembly at 3:00 p.m.; a performance for parents will be at 7 p.m.

Middle Schools

Amboy Middle: The band will perform in the Veterans Day parade in Vancouver on Saturday, Nov. 5. Students will also be watching a documentary about the history of Veterans Day in class on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Chief Umtuch Middle: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in the commons
Daybreak Middle: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 9:15 a.m.
Laurin Middle: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
Pleasant Valley Middle: Assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 9:45 a.m.
Tukes Valley Middle: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 9:30 a.m. features the Battle Ground High School Air Force Junior ROTC; a reception for veterans will be at 9:00 a.m. 

High Schools

Battle Ground High School: Veterans Day Panel for students on Thursday, Nov. 10  hosted by the Air Force Junior ROTC and the Social Studies department. The panel will comprise veterans from all services and be representative of several eras including the Korean War, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and those currently serving. The panelists will make a short biographical presentation to each class period and the invited classes will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panelists. Please contact the school to attend.
Prairie High School: Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 1:45 p.m. features the Prairie High School Air Force JROTC conducting a flag folding ceremony. Local Veterans will be honored by students with notes of appreciation, and the concert band will play the Armed Forces Medley.
