State Auditor Issues Clean Report on Battle Ground Public Schools

April 23, 2015
The Washington State Auditor's office has given Battle Ground Public Schools a thumbs up on its financial controls and compliance with federal laws and regulations for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. In its annual audit of the district's financial records, the state determined that there are no significant deficiencies, nor did it find any material weaknesses in Battle Ground Public Schools' internal controls over financial reporting and federal programs. The state released its report online this month describing the district's financial condition as clean.

In the area of federal programs, auditors examined records to confirm the district follows the requirements of the federal grants it receives and that appropriate internal controls are in place for records maintenance and tracking of expenditures and funds.

Auditors also examined the district's financial statements for accuracy and to confirm it has strong internal controls for the tracking of revenues and expenditures and records maintenance.

The state regularly audits school districts in three areas: federal awards, financial statements and accountability for public resources; to hold them accountable for their use of public resources. Battle Ground Public Schools falls into the category (based on district size) that is audited annually. Because the district is low-risk based on previous, positive audits, the state examines Battle Ground Public Schools' financial statements and federal awards records every year, and accountability documents every other year.
