CAM, BGHS, PHS earn state "Achievement Awards"
CAM Jr.-Sr. High School plus Battle Ground and Prairie high schools have been named 2011 Schools of Achievement by the Washington State Board of Education and the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). CAM and Bellevue High School were tops in the state with five awards each.
In all, 362 achievement awards are going to 274 schools. The awards are based on the schools’ statewide assessment data for the previous three years.
“By lifting up our most successful schools, the Washington Achievement Award shines a light on some of the best practices that are making that success possible,” the OSPI announcement said.
CAM, 715 NW Onsdorff Blvd., is a rigorous, parent-partnered school for grades 5 through 12. The principal is Colleen O’Neal; assistant principal is Micah Hilario. CAM was an award winner in these categories: Overall excellence, language arts, math, science and extended graduation rate. CAM is a repeat winner in multiple categories. In addition, The Columbian reported that an “Achievement Index” associated with the awards had CAM as tops in the greater Vancouver area with a score of 6.46 out of a possible 7.
Both Battle Ground and Prairie high schools won Achievement Awards for their records in extended graduation rates. Tim Lexow is principal at BGHS and Jason Perrins at PHS. BGHS also won recognition in this category for 2010 and 2009.
