Common Core State Standards
What teachers are saying about Common Core
Common Core Overview
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are a new set of learning standards that have been adopted in 45 states across America. Created for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, CCSS was designed by educators and academic experts including teachers and parents, and inspired by standards from the world’s highest-performing countries. It represents a shift in the teaching of English Language Arts (writing, reading, listening, and speaking)and Math. The standards were designed to ensure that all students, regardless of where they live, are learning what they need to know to graduate from high school ready for college or a career. They are to be fully implemented in each school district across Washington during the 2014-15 school year.

Battle Ground Staff Preparing for Common Core
As with any significant change in our children’s education, it will be important for us as parents, students, and teachers to all work together and learn more as the change occurs. The 2013-2014 school year will be a year of transition. Twice a month Battle Ground staff will use early release days to work in collaborative groups to revise curriculum to meet Common Core standards. Full implementation of the new standards will take place during the 2014-2015 school year.
