Assistant Principal Kara Kent

Get to know Kara Kent, Glenwood/Laurin’s new assistant principal

Kara Kent is a new assistant principal at both Glenwood Heights Primary and Laurin Middle School. The two schools share a campus, and Kara is splitting her time evenly between the schools. Kent, who was an eighth grade English language arts and history teacher at CAM Academy last year, takes over the AP job at Glenwood from Damen Hermens (now at Tukes Valley Middle School).

We asked Kara to tell us some things that people might not know about her. Check out her answers below and get to know a little more about your new assistant principal!

Do you have any pets?
I have a wonderful dog named Ziggy, and a unique cat named Luna.

Where did you grow up, and where did you go to school?
I grew up here in Brush Prairie. I actually attended Glenwood Heights Primary and Laurin Middle School, and then went to high school at Prairie. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and German at Seattle University, and got my teaching certificate from WSU-Vancouver. Finally, I earned my Masters in Educational Leadership at Western Governors University.

What are your favorite sports teams?
I come from a family of sports nuts, so I like a variety of teams! The Oregon Ducks, the Portland Trailblazers, and the Detroit Lions are three of my favorites. I am also looking forward to watching some Ridgefield Raptors baseball in the near future!

If you were a Star Wars character, who would you be, and why?
I would be Princess Leia (later known as General Organa!). She knows when to ask for help and also when she is able to save herself. She’s good with technology and has strong leadership skills. And she gets to hang out with Ewoks!

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to collect and listen to vinyl records with my husband, go to concerts, and read as many books as possible. I also enjoy cooking and spending time at the beach!

Finish this sentence: “I am excited/proud to be a Glenwood Heights Cub (and Laurin Lion) because….”
The students are full of hope, potential, and excitement for learning. I feel right at home!
