Native American instructional support services

Native American students who are academically at-risk are eligible to receive supplemental instructional support services through Title III.  Twice a year, ESL teachers review data to determine if a Native American student is academically at risk:

• Not meeting standard on state assessments
• Below grade level on district assessments
• Below-average grades in core subjects

If a Native American student is academically at risk, parents are informed by the ESL Department that the student is potentially eligible for Title III.  Parents have the right to refuse language testing. If there is no response after written and verbal communication attempts, the student is tested with the ELPA21 Language Screener. Students scoring at Level 1 or 2 are eligible for Title III services.  Parents will be notified by the ESL teacher of the types of supplemental instructional supports being made available to the student.

Battle Ground Public Schools ESL Department receives regular information regarding the Native American Youth and Family Center in Portland, Oregon.  All information regarding scholarships, youth leadership opportunities, and cultural events are available from the Prairie and Battle Ground high school career centers.
