Public Records

Battle Ground Public Schools strives for transparency and continual
open communications with parents, the general public, the media and
school district employees. Helping meet that goal is the primary job of
the Communications Department, which produces:
Press releases about newsworthy events, programs, appointments etc.
“Bits and Bites,” a district newsletter
“Your Battle Ground Public Schools,” a quarterly report to all
district residents that is either inserted in The Reflector or mailed.
“BG Board, Briefly,” a summary of each School Board meeting Press releases to the local media Postings on the district’s Website, battlegroundps.org.
These Website postings typically include the publications listed
above. We also connect with the public in more personal ways, such
as: Answering phone calls and emails from parents, the media and members
of the public who request information about Battle Ground Public
Schools; alerting parents, students and the media of emergency school
closures or late starts due to inclement weather; attending civic
functions and various schools-related meetings. The Department is also
involved in organizing special public events, such as the school
district’s Centennial celebration in January 2010 and participation in the Battle Ground and Brush Prairie summer parades.
The Information belongs to the public
While parts of personnel and student records are private, much of the
information gathered and recorded by school districts, as with any
government agency in Washington, is a matter of public record and open
to public scrutiny. Likewise, meetings of the elected members of the
School Board are open except under certain circumstances. The Washington
attorney general has created a guide to both laws, accessible at:

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS - Request Form
High School transcripts are readily available to any current student or former student of Battle Ground School District high schools. Requests are processed year round at the District Office or during the school year at the appropriate high school (five years after graduation - current). The District Office maintains transcripts on microfilm going way back. Accessing the older, microfiched records is time consuming and turnaround time is 2-3 days typically on older records. Official transcripts are often requested by colleges, the armed forces, and prospective employers. The District cannot release any transcripts without signed permission of the student if they are over 18 or the parent if the student is a minor. Transcripts are not processed over the phone, but may be faxed or emailed to the district. In order to process a request, the student's name at the time of graduation or withdrawl, birth date, name of school, year of graduation or when the student would have graduated are needed. Addtionally, we request knowing how many official or unofficial copies are needed. We need to know whether to mail them or if you will pick them up. There is no charge for transcripts up to 10 copies. Student records are checked for fines and fees owing and official transcripts will not be released if there are fines and fees owed. Requests may be faxed to 360-885-5310 or 360-885-5377. The telephone transcript information line is 360-885-5453.
