High School Health

Requirements

Students are required to take one semester (0.5 credit) of health to graduate from high school. This course requirement cannot be waived. In accordance with state law, health courses include comprehensive sexual health education. However, parents and guardians can choose to opt out their high schooler from some or all of this instruction.

High school comprehensive sexual health education is given primarily in health courses, but the state also requires a second round of instruction. The second round is taught as part of PE 2 or PE 2-equivalent courses.

If your high schooler will participate

If your high schooler will participate in all the comprehensive sexual health lessons, you do not need to take any action.

Opting out your high schooler

If after reviewing the curriculum you want to opt out your high schooler from receiving some or all of the comprehensive sexual health instruction, please follow the opt-out instructions.

Curriculum review

Parents of high school students enrolled in PE/health courses will have the opportunity to review the sexual health curriculum and opt out their high schooler(s) from any or all days of instruction. There are four ways to review the curriculum.
