Academic and Student Well-Being Recovery Plan 2021-22

In response to impacts caused by the pandemic, each public school district in Washington State is required by the state Legislature and by Congress to create and submit an Academic and Student Well-being Recovery Plan by June 1, 2021. Battle Ground Public Schools’ plan was approved by the Board of Directors at its regular meeting on May 24, 2021.

The goal of the plan is to identify which students and student groups need additional academic and well-being supports, define how those supports will be provided, and plan for recovery and acceleration of student learning and well-being over the summer, into the fall, and beyond.

In addition, districts are required to use an equity analysis tool in the development of the plan.

Districts must submit their plans via an online survey to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). OSPI has provided a series of required questions to which districts must respond. The survey with responses to these questions is the formal plan that we submit to OSPI. Two important notes:

  • Assessment data is used to determine which students in each of the identified groups need the supports identified in the plan. Not all students in each of these groups will necessarily receive these supports.
  • This plan is not inclusive of all the district’s efforts to support students.

Battle Ground Public Schools’ plan

Battle Ground Public Schools’ recovery plan is aligned with the district’s vision to establish a coherent and equitable system of support for all students. This recovery plan represents our best efforts to identify and respond to impacts caused by the pandemic. Components of this plan address student well-being, professional learning, recovery and acceleration, diagnostic assessment, and community partnerships. Each component of the plan is processed through the lens of Coherence and the district’s goals of strong social-emotional skills and high quality instruction.

It is our intent to engage all stakeholders in addressing how choices in instruction, programming, staffing, funding, and policy affect all students in our schools. To accomplish this goal we encourage the application of the BGPS Equity Analysis Tool for decisions that impact students, staff and families of Battle Ground Public Schools. This plan is a living document. It is not inclusive of all the district’s efforts to support students. As we go through the Plan, Do, Study, Act process throughout the year with the analysis of new data we will use this plan to re-evaluate, modify and add supports and strategies to address the student learning needs identified.
