BGPS Events Honor Veterans

Battle Ground Public Schools’ students and staff will honor veterans during school events, including assemblies and a panel for high school students. Community members and veterans are invited to attend. Schools will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day.

Events will be held at:

Primary Schools

Captain Strong: The school will be hosting a breakfast for veterans at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 and then holding a school-wide assembly at 9:30 a.m. following the breakfast.
Daybreak Primary: Assembly on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10:15 a.m. Primary students will sing songs in honor of veterans.
Glenwood Heights Primary: Assemblies on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. Both assemblies will feature the school’s Cubby Choir, and the Prairie High School Air Force JROTC will present the Colors as well as perform a rifle routine. Veterans who attend will be honored.
Maple Grove: Assembly on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the gym.
Pleasant Valley Primary: Assemblies on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Friday, Nov. 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the middle school gym. Light refreshments will be available.
Yacolt Primary: On Tuesday, Nov. 6, choir students will perform at a pair of assemblies in the school gym. The first is a school-wide assembly at 9:45 a.m., and a performance for parents will be at 6 p.m.  

Middle Schools

Chief Umtuch Middle: Assembly on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the commons where the school band will perform.
Daybreak Middle: Assembly on Friday, Nov. 9 at 9:10 a.m. The Battle Ground High School Color Guard will present the flags. All Veterans in attendance will be recognized for their service.
Laurin Middle: Assembly on Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in the gym.
Pleasant Valley Middle: Assemblies on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Friday, Nov. 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the middle school gym. Light refreshments will be available.
Tukes Valley Middle: Assembly on Friday, Nov. 9, at 9:30 a.m. All Veterans and their families are welcome to attend.

High Schools

Battle Ground High School: Veterans Day panel for students on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Friday, Nov. 9 in the library. Hosted by the Air Force Junior ROTC and the Social Studies department, the panels will comprise veterans from all military branches and be representative of several different eras. The panelists will make a short biographical presentation to each class period throughout the day, and the invited classes will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panelists.
Prairie High School: Assembly on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 9:45 a.m. in the auditorium. The Prairie High School Air Force JROTC will be presenting.
