High School Summer Online Original Credit and Credit Recovery Courses

How does summer school work for high school students?

Credit Recovery courses are available online to current 9th – 12th-grade students who want to recover courses they failed in high school.

Original Credit Courses are available to current 9th -12th-grade students to support on-time graduation. All courses are delivered through an online provider using Edmentum and Edgenuity platforms. These are Washington State approved online courses with certified teachers endorsed for each specific subject.

Current 8th grade students may also recover the WA State History Requirement. Students who received an “Incomplete” during the 2nd semester of the school year can also attend summer school to complete those courses.

How much does summer school cost?

Original Credit courses support on-time graduation and help students who are behind in credit.; The tuition is free for one .5 semester online course. Students who are not behind in credit may still register for courses. Each .5 semester online course costs $150.

Credit Recovery courses are FREE.

How is summer school graded?

Original Credit students get a grade, not a pass/fail.
Credit Recovery grading is “P” for PASS only; no letter grades are given.

Which classes are available for summer school?

Core classes and some electives are offered. Students with an IEP must have approval from their special education instructor to take Foundation courses. Without this pre-approval, all students will be enrolled in grade-level courses.

How do I get help with a class?

Certified teachers will provide in-person support 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday from  July 6 to Aug. 4, 2022 in the Battle Ground High School Media Center.

How many courses can I recover during summer school?

Students may recover two courses worth .5 semester credits each for a total of 1.0 credit. Upon successful completion of a course, students will receive a pass/fail grade and credit.

How do I take my final exam and earn credit?

Students must take a proctored final exam at the completion of each course. Final exams need to be scheduled by the student with the summer school coordinator for the week of Aug. 8-12, 2022. If students finish their coursework before the last week of summer school, they are welcome to test early, by appointment. The last week is reserved for finals and tutoring is not available.

The minimum score on the final to earn credit in the course is 60%. Two final exam retakes may be scheduled if necessary. After a third failed final exam attempt, the student will be re-enrolled in the class. No online content assistance is allowed during the final exam. Hand-written notes and printed study guides from the online class may be allowed as well as e-notes that students have taken during the course.

Students have up to three attempts to earn 70% on any unit quiz / test to progress. After three failed attempts, summer school staff must be contacted to reset the class during support hours.

What happens on Aug. 12, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.?

Completed credit recovery course credits are sent to district registrars. All accounts are closed and will become inaccessible. Unfinished summer school class progress is permanently lost. Unfinished summer school classes do not continue beyond Aug. 12, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
