Battle Ground school board selects Rob Henrikson as new District 2 director

Rob Henrikson photoThe Battle Ground Public Schools Board of Directors has selected Rob Henrikson to fill the District 2 director position left vacant when long-time board member Ken Root resigned last month. Henrikson was one of five candidates the board interviewed and considered at a special meeting Thursday night. Henrikson will be sworn in at the Battle Ground school board meeting on Monday, March 11.

Henrikson and his wife, who is a special education assistant at Tukes Valley Middle School, are long-time Battle Ground residents. Rob Henrikson graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1981, and all five of the Henrikson’s children also attended Battle Ground schools. Their youngest is currently at Battle Ground High School. Henrikson works for the Developmental Disabilities Administration in the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, and has a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and an associate’s degree from Clark College. He volunteers for his church and for Battle Ground Public Schools, announcing boys and girls soccer games.

“I believe that serving the community is very important,” Henrikson said during the application process. “I am passionate about working with and advocating for the youth of our community. I want to do this and represent the community.”

Henrikson’s appointment to the board will be through November 2019. The position will be up for election for a four-year term at that time.

The school board is also looking for a new board member for the District 4 director position. Mavis Nickels resigned from that position last month, and Monday is her last meeting. The board is expected to interview candidates for District 4 on or about March 18. Both Root and Nickels had served eight years on the board.
