Elections: Board member filing period May 17-21

People interested in running for one of three Battle Ground Public Schools Board of Director seats on the November General Election ballot are invited to submit their application during candidate filing week, which runs from May 17-21, 2021.

Battle Ground Public Schools are governed by a five-person elected Board of Directors. They serve four-year terms, with three of the terms expiring in a given odd-numbered year and the other two expiring in the next odd-numbered year to ensure experience and continuity on the Board.

This year, the three Board of Director seats on the ballot in November are:

  • Director, District 1 – Incumbent, Mary Snitily
  • Director, District 3 – Incumbent, Troy McCoy
  • Director, District 5 – Incumbent, Jackie Maddux

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, reside in the district for which they are filing and be a registered voter at the time of filing. For seats with three or more candidates, a top-two primary election on Aug. 3, 2021 will determine which candidates appear on the Nov. 2 General Election ballot.

Time commitment

Board members are expected to attend regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of most months at 6 p.m., as well as special meetings and work sessions. Directors also participate in committees related to education and attend many school events throughout the year. Directors typically devote about 10 hours per week to board activities.
