Experts to inform parents at vaping prevention event

Vaping event flyerBattle Ground Public Schools and the Prevent Together Coalition are teaming up to host a parents-only event that will provide critical information and awareness about youth vaping and substance use. “Vape 101: What Every Parent Should Know” will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Tukes Valley Middle School and includes an interactive exhibit, an expert presentation about vaping, and a panel discussion with an audience question and answer session.

Beginning at 6 p.m., parents and adults are invited to walk through a mock adolescent bedroom to try and spot the signs of vaping and other substance use. This interactive “Hidden in Plain Site” exhibit is open for 30 minutes before the presentation begins, and again at the conclusion of the presentation and Q & A session.

Dr. Rita Williams, a Pulmonologist from PeaceHealth, and Frank Manza, Fire Captain with Vancouver Fire Department who has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare field, will give the keynote presentation from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. Following the presentation is a panel discussion on substance use trends and concerns featuring Williams, Manza, Kathy Deschner from the Prevention Alliance and Crystal Wallace, Tukes Valley Middle School’s Prevention Intervention Specialist.
