Kindergarten orientations are happening this week

May 23, 2023

If your child will turn 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2023, consider attending an upcoming kindergarten orientation at one of Battle Ground Public Schools’ seven primary schools. Students do not need to be enrolled or pre-register to attend orientation.  This is an opportunity for families to visit classrooms, talk with school staff and ask questions. A completed enrollment is not required to attend kindergarten orientation. This year’s schedule is:

  • Daybreak Primary – Tuesday, May 23, 5-7 p.m.
  • Glenwood Heights Primary – Tuesday, May 23, 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Captain Strong Primary – Wednesday, May 24, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Yacolt Primary – Thursday, May 25, 5-7 p.m.
  • Maple Grove Primary – Thursday, May 25, 5-6 p.m.
  • Pleasant Valley Primary -Thursday, May 25, 5:30-7 p.m.
  • Tukes Valley Primary – Thursday, May 25, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

If you are unable to attend an orientation but have questions prior to enrollment, please contact your child’s school. A list of contact information is available on the district website. To determine which of the seven primary schools your child will attend, visit the Clark County Property Information website and enter your address. You can also contact the district boundaries office at 360-885-6577.

Enrolling now also ensures your child will be able to attend Jump Start in August. This four-day program, Aug. 14-17, helps kindergarten students get acclimated to school. Space for Jump Start is limited and determined on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment also ensures you will receive information about school open houses held prior to the start of the school year. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and building administrators. Contact your child’s school registrar for more information.

Kindergarten enrollment is available online. Parents and guardians will need to provide proof of their child’s birth date (such as a birth certificate) and a signed and completed Washington state certificate of immunization status or certificate of exemption. Please note that the state of Washington requires that immunization records be medically verified.

School will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023; however, kindergartners will have a staggered start. This allows small groups of students to get acclimated to the school environment on the first couple of days of school before beginning to attend school full time. Parents will receive a letter before the start of school about their child’s start date. Sept. 5, 2023, will be the first full day of school for kindergartners. See the 2023-24 school year calendar (Spanish) (Russian).
