Home Learning Resources, more to come

Dear families of Battle Ground Public Schools,

Thank you for your patience during these difficult times. In my 38 years of public education, I have never experienced anything like this. There is certainly no playbook for how to deal with this worldwide pandemic. However, as a district, we are committed to doing all we can to help our families get through this crisis.

In the few days that we’ve been closed, our first priority has been to coordinate the distribution of lunches and breakfasts to our students. Just today we served meals to nearly 800 students.

The district is also developing plans to provide childcare for first responders and healthcare workers who have no other resources.

We would appreciate your continued patience as we develop additional supports. We understand that in addition to meal service and childcare, our families are eager for resources that will enable our students to continue learning at home. Putting such resources together in a way that will benefit all students takes time, creative thinking and problem solving, especially in an environment where social distancing is the norm and staff are restricted as to how we can provide those resources.

In the weeks to come, we will be working with our teachers to provide online learning opportunities for our students and ways for our teachers to connect and engage with families. We realize that online learning is not the optimal option for all students, and are working to develop a tiered model of support with the goal that all students would benefit from our modified instructional delivery system.

Update Contact Information
Today, we need all families to make sure that your contact information (email and phone number) is correct in Skyward Family Access. This will help educators contact you as online learning ramps up. To update your phone and email, please log in to Skyward and click Student Info in the left column. Then click Request Changes for [child], and in the drop down menu choose Family Information. Update your information and click Save. Please do this for one child, and we will make sure the information is updated for all of your children in our schools.

Home Learning Resources
Until we are able to offer an online educational program with support, we have created a web page with links to many online learning sites. You can search our new Home Learning Resources page by keyword or browse by subject and grade level. We will continue to add additional learning sites and videos describing these sites in the coming days, so check back often.

Again, thank you for our patience. As we continue to deliver resources and problem-solve the best way to develop a robust online educational program and other learning supports, our goal is to be creative, thoughtful, and efficient in the same way that we ask our students to be.

Stay healthy,

Mark Ross, Superintendent
