This week’s News to Know

March 25, 2024

One-hour late start on Wednesday, March 27

Schools will begin an hour late on Wednesday, March 27, to allow time for teachers to work together to implement best practices of high-quality instruction. Students will be released at normal times.

Spring break, April 1-5

Schools will be closed the week of April 1 for spring break. District office will be open Monday-Thursday that week and closed on Friday, April 5. Schools will resume on Monday, April 8.

Registration open for Right At School’s spring break camp

Right At School, the district’s before/after school care partner organization, is offering spring break camps for primary school-age children. The deadline to register is Tuesday, March 26. Camps will be open daily, April 1-5, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Captain Strong Primary School. The cost is $50 per day, per child. Learn more and start the registration process.

Hotspots and bus Wi-Fi to end

This summer, Battle Ground Public Schools will stop receiving federal dollars that allowed us to provide additional support for students during the pandemic. As a result, we will not have the funds to continue lending out hotspots for home use or to maintain Wi-Fi on school buses. These resources will no longer be available starting on June 17. We regret this inconvenience.

If you have a district-issued hotspot, please return it by June 17

Action requested: Family preferred language

Beginning in fall 2024, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction will require school districts to report a family’s preferred language for communication, in addition to the language that they speak at home. Whether your family’s language is English or a language other than English, please make a selection in Skyward Family Access following these steps.

Want to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery?

On Saturday, April 27, students in grades 10-12 will have the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB. Scores are used to determine if someone is qualified to enlist in the military and to assign someone to an appropriate job in the military. Scores above 31 also will fulfill graduation pathway requirements. Registration runs from Friday, March 26, through April 26. Get information about the test.

Review proposed new teaching and learning materials

Battle Ground Public Schools is considering new science curriculum for middle school students in grades 6-8, as well as new social studies curricula and a horticulture textbook at the high school level. Over the past year, committees of parents, guardians, teachers and community members evaluated the new materials. You can now review the materials that were recommended and provide your input by Friday, April 5, at noon.
