Summer Academy keeps Battle Ground students learning

July 12, 2022

Students and teacherMore than 780 K-8 students are taking advantage of Battle Ground Public Schools’ Summer Academy in July. This is the second year the district used one-time federal relief funds known as ESSER to expand summer school and offer bus transportation to those who need it. More than 60 teachers, classified employees, nurses and administrators are working four days a week.

Summer Academy is offered to students who need additional support to reach grade level skills. Students attend morning or afternoon sessions at Yacolt and Glenwood Heights primary schools and River HomeLink. A total of 29 certificated teachers, 28 classified staff and a nurse and coordinator at each building work to support students.

At the high school level, 216 students are taking advantage of free credit recovery courses. Another 225 students are enrolled in original credit courses or booster (prep) courses. Classes are completed primarily online, with an open lab available at Battle Ground High School, and teachers available for in-person or remote assistance.

The district also is providing students with free K-12 at-home extended learning opportunities covering math and reading skills. These self-paced, online courses help students by matching their skill level to the material. Several options are still available through July 31.
