Superintendent’s message

Dear families of Battle Ground Public Schools,

I want to once again thank all of you for your patience and cooperation as we have worked to change the way we do school during this worldwide pandemic.

We realize that many of you are struggling with your own personal situations, and that the added burden of doing school at home can cause even more stress on families.

We want you to know that we are here to help, and that we have many ways to ease some of your concerns about distance learning.

On our Battle Ground website, we have tips for parents on doing distance learning. In addition, we have a list of online learning resources that parents can use from home. We have a way for you to get meals either at our school sites or delivered to your homes if needed. We also have the ability for you to get Chromebooks if you do not have technology at home, or you can sign up for paper learning packets if that works better for your primary students.

Our teachers, counselors and support staff are working hard to provide all of our students with academic and social-emotional supports. Please partner with us to keep your students engaged in their learning so that they do not lose valuable instructional time. Feel free to reach out to your school if you need help with anything involving distance learning, or if you just need someone to talk to. While our school buildings continue to be closed to the public, we will have someone manning phone lines during regular school hours.

To the class of 2020, our amazing seniors. This has been a difficult spring, and not what we had hoped for your senior year. Please know that we are thinking about you. If you were on track to graduate on March 13, you still are—please stay engaged with your teachers. If you were not on track to graduate as of March 13, we will have counselors and teachers reach out to you in the coming weeks to help you get across the stage. Whether or not that stage is a physical one or a virtual one is still to be determined. At this time, we are not changing graduation dates for seniors, but we are waiting for further information from the Governor’s office as to when social distancing restrictions will be lifted or modified. We hope to have more information after May 5 as to what graduation ceremonies will look like. Our high school administrators will work with student leadership on planning for other senior celebrations or recognitions.

For all families, please know that your Battle Ground schools are working hard every day to make sure that your students get the best education possible through the end of the school year. We miss all of our kids and can’t wait to see their smiling faces and experience their energy once school resumes next fall. Please take care of yourselves.

Stay safe and healthy,

Mark Ross, Superintendent
Battle Ground Public Schools
