Volunteers needed for sexual health curriculum adoption committee

Dec. 2, 2021

The Battle Ground school district is seeking volunteers to serve on a committee that will review and provide input on curricula for the teaching of comprehensive sexual health education in grades 5-12.

This committee will build on the work completed over the past few months by the middle school Sexual Health Community Advisory Group. That group reviewed curricula for the teaching of sexual health education in grades 5-8 in Battle Ground Public Schools. At its meeting on Nov. 22, the Board of Directors asked the district to move forward on a plan to choose a coherent curricula for grades 5-12 and consider scope and sequence. Read the district’s CSE Adoption Plan for more information.

The district will select six parent/community members, six teachers, and one building administrator to serve on the Middle School/High School Sexual Health Adoption Committee. This committee will meet weekly in person on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m., January 11-March 29, 2022. Current COVID-19 protocols will be followed.

Applicants will be selected in a two-step process: Step 1) Complete the BGPS MS/HS Sexual Health Adoption Committee Application form. The form must be filled out no later than Dec. 12, 2021. Step 2) Follow-up interview for the finalists from Step 1. The district anticipates selecting committee members by the end of December.
