2024 High School Summer Credit Recovery Courses

Program Description:

High school credit recovery is available to current 9th – 12th-grade students who want to recover courses they have failed in high school. Current 8th-grade students may also recover the WA State History Requirement. This program is free to all students wanting to recover high school credit.

Students may work from home 24/7. Certified teachers will provide virtual support starting July 5 – Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday – Thursday. Students may recover up to two .5 semester credits for a total of 1.0 credit. Upon successful completion of a course, students will receive a pass/fail grade and credit.

Final proctored exams are administered during the week of August 12-15, 2024. Finals are completed at Battle Ground High School Media Center during the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary, however, students should come before the last hour of the day to ensure they have enough time to complete the exam. Summer School Assistance Schedule

  • Virtual teacher support is July 8-Aug. 1 via email
  • Proctored finals testing is Aug. 5-9 and 12-16, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday
  • In-person proctored exams will be held in the Battle Ground High School Media Center
  • Students must bring their fully charged Chromebooks and their own earbuds

Courses will be uploaded starting the week of July 1. All courses will be uploaded by July 8. Students may begin working on the course as soon as they receive an email indicating that they have been activated, however, teacher support is not available until July 8, 2024.

2024 High School Summer Original Credit Courses

Program Description

High School summer online original credit courses are available to current 9th -12th-grade students to support on-time graduation. Current 8th-grade students may register for WA State History. All courses are delivered through an online provider using Edmentum and Edgenuity. These are Washington State approved online courses with certified teachers endorsed for each specific subject. A report with final grades will be sent to the respective high schools for registrars to place on transcripts. If students prefer, they have the option of not transcripting the grade and credit.

To support on-time graduation, tuition is reduced for students who are behind in credit. The tuition is $50 for one .5 semester online course. Students who are not behind in credit may still register for courses at full cost, which is $150. Students have from the date they receive the online course in June until Aug. 16th, 2024 to complete coursework and the final exam. Final proctored exams are scheduled by appointment for August 12-16, 2024. How does summer school work for high school students?

Original Credit Courses are available to current 9th -12th-grade students to support on-time graduation. All courses are delivered through an online provider using Edmentum and Edgenuity platforms. These are Washington State approved online courses with certified teachers endorsed for each specific subject.

Current 8th grade students may also recover the WA State History Requirement. Students who received an “Incomplete” during the 2nd semester of the school year can also attend summer school to complete those courses.

How much does summer school cost?

Original Credit courses support on-time graduation and help students who are behind in credit.; The tuition is $50 for one .5 semester online course. Students who are not behind in credit may still register for courses. Each .5 semester online course costs $150. 

Credit Recovery courses are FREE.

How do I register for summer school?

     Step 1: Talk with your counselor to figure out which courses you need.

     Step 2: Fill out the appropriate form to register.

Students may begin working on courses as soon as they receive a confirmation email and instructions.

How is summer school graded?

Original Credit students get a grade, not a pass/fail.
Credit Recovery grading is “P” for PASS only; no letter grades are given.  

Which classes are available for summer school?

Core classes and some electives are offered. Students with an IEP must have approval from their special education instructor to take Foundation courses. Without this pre-approval, all students will be enrolled in grade-level courses.

How do I get help with a class?

Certified teachers will provide virtual support.

How many courses can I recover during summer school?

Students may recover two courses worth .5 semester credits each for a total of 1.0 credit. Upon successful completion of a course, students will receive a pass/fail grade and credit. 

How do I take my final exam and earn credit?

Students must take a proctored final exam at the completion of each course. Final exams need to be scheduled by the student with the summer school coordinator for the week of Aug. 12-16, 2024. If students finish their coursework before the last week of summer school, they are welcome to test early, by appointment. The last week is reserved for finals and tutoring is not available.

The minimum score on the final to earn credit in the course is 60%. Two final exam retakes may be scheduled if necessary. After a third failed final exam attempt, the student will be re-enrolled in the class. No online content assistance is allowed during the final exam. Hand-written notes and printed study guides from the online class may be allowed as well as e-notes that students have taken during the course.

Students have up to three attempts to earn 70% on any unit quiz / test to progress. After three failed attempts, summer school staff must be contacted to reset the class during support hours.
