Warehouse/operations building

The exterior of the completed operations building

The completed building will help the district better serve schools and save money by buying in bulk.

The 1939 former bus barn that housed the operations building for many years

The former site of the operations department had structural issues.

Why the building was needed

The former operations building was a 1930s-era bus barn with structural issues. The new building, opened in 2025, houses the maintenance, custodial and warehouse departments in a safe facility.

Increased warehouse capacity to better serve schools, save money
The district's original warehouse was built in 1979, when the district had fewer schools, students and staff members.

  • The new building increases the district's warehouse capacity by 50% and helps better serve the district, which had grown to 19 schools and approximately 13,000 students when the operations building opened.

  • Increased warehouse capacity will allow the district to receive bulk pricing on many items and store them until they are needed.

Additional impact

Space for new Futures program building
Relocating the operations department will eventually allow the district to demolish the former operations building and create a new space for the Futures program. The program fosters independence for young adults ages 18-22 who have disabilities.

Battle Ground H.S. parking lot improvements
Removing the former operations building also will eventually allow the district to make revisions to Battle Ground High School's parking lot and dropoff/pickup areas to improve traffic flow and safety.

How the building was funded

Impact fees avoid burden to taxpayers
The new warehouse/operations building was paid for through impact fees. Impact fees are paid by developers and buyers of new homes; they are not tax dollars. Using impact fees allowed the district to fund this necessary improvement without increasing the tax burden on residents by requesting a bond or a capital levy.
