Got questions about Proposition 11, the student safety and academic support levy for Battle Ground schools? Attend this information night to learn about the levy and ask questions before you vote in the Nov. 3 election. This event is open to the public and child care will be available. Everyone is welcome.

At the info night, you will:

  • Hear how students have been affected by budget cuts made over the past year

  • Learn how the levy amount was set and what it would pay for if approved

  • Get information from a representative from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, who will discuss the state's role in overseeing school districts facing significant financial challenges

  • Have an opportunity to ask questions about the levy

About state financial oversight

Over the past two years, BGPS has made $34 million in budget cuts due to the loss of levy funding. Use of the district’s savings (fund balance) to sustain operations is projected to drop the district’s financial health score from 3.35 out of 4 in the 2023-24 school year to 1.25 out of 4 by the end of the 2026-27 school year. A lower score means less financial stability, placing the district within the state's financial warning range.

As a school district’s financial condition worsens, state control increases. Local school districts do not receive more state funding as part of the oversight process and lose the ability to make financial and program decisions that affect students.
