2021 Thoughtexchange: Working Better Together

Working Better TogetherIn the fall of 2021, as the district worked with families and community to manage the impacts of the pandemic, BGPS asked the community to share the most pressing issues facing the district that need to be addressed.

You can dive into the survey results. Follow the link to view individual thoughts and Themes by rating. You can click on each Theme to see thoughts within the Theme. The highlights are:

  • 1,892 participants shared 2,108 thoughts and rated 85,578 thoughts.
  • Thoughts/Themes rated 3.5 and above show high agreement and high importance among participants.
  • The thought Themes that have high agreement (rated 3.5 or above) are Class Sizes, Education, Levy and Budget, Facilities and Operations, Parent and Community Engagement, Support for All Students, Extracurricular and Athletics, Social Emotional, and Staff.
  • The top rated individual thoughts (rated 4.4) were on the topics of Real Education/Class Size, Education, and Drugs.

The district will use the thoughts shared by the 2,018 participants to help prioritize the work to meet the needs and ensure the success of all students.

2018 Thoughtexchange: Boundary Changes

August 2018 saw the southern portion of the district growing rapidly and schools in the area running short of classroom space. BGPS asked its community what should be considered as it explored boundary changes as a way to address overcrowding in the district’s southern schools.

More than 1,800 participants shared their thoughts and helped the district to understand that class sizes, allowing for boundary exceptions, the length of bus rides, and planning for new facilities were all important considerations in the process.

The district shared the perspectives with its community Overcrowding Committee to develop and implement a boundary change plan that took into account these important considerations.

2017 Thoughtexchange: Weather Report

In 2017, we asked our community for their thoughts on how the district was progressing on the goals in its Strategic Plan. The district used the information to reexamine programs and ensure its activities were in alignment with community needs.

The biggest thoughts from the community asked for secure and well-maintained facilities and the return of middle school sports.

Thanks to the support of levy funds, the board of directors was  able to focus on these goals after 2019. Much-needed maintenance projects have replaced roofs and HVAC systems, revised parking lots and increased security and student safety. January 2022 saw the return of middle school sports after a 40-year absence.

2016 Thoughtexchange: Facility Planning

In 2016, the district pulled together community members for the Facilities Improvement Team (FIT). This team put in many hours examining the facility needs of the district, seeking community input, and engaging the services of experts to anticipate the future needs of our district.

FIT used the thoughts of the 1,916 stakeholders who participated in the survey to craft a long-range facilities plan.

2015 Thoughtexchange: Strategic Planning

In May 2015, BGPS engaged in its first Thoughtexchange process called a “Weather Report.” This process was developed in collaboration with the district’s strategic planning efforts to provide detailed information and community input for the development of the district’s strategic plan.

From the 2,526 stakeholders who contributed, we learned about our strengths and the areas that we can improve, and developed the 2016 Strategic Plan.
