Summer work helps improve schools around the district
Sept. 5, 2023
While students enjoyed summer break, crews were spread out across the Battle Ground School District working on a long list of projects. CAM Academy’s new classrooms were completed just in time for the school year. A third building on the school’s new campus northwest of Battle Ground High School, housing administrative offices, a cafeteria and library, is slated for completion in October, along with a covered play structure. CAM’s new home was paid for using school impact fees from new construction.
In addition to CAM Academy, crews were working on a long list of other projects:
- Continued security upgrades: All primary schools in the district now have new entry systems, allowing staff to see visitors on a remote camera system and open doors remotely. Middle schools will receive similar upgrades this school year (some are already underway), followed by high schools in the near future. This investment in security is based on community feedback and made possible by local levy funding approved by voters.
- Battle Ground High School: Hallway carpet from the 1970s was replaced with long-lasting vinyl flooring. Crews also made further improvements to student workout areas, the curb along Stadium Way and the District Stadium turf.
- Prairie High School: The track was resurfaced and painted, new cabinets were installed in the band room, field turf was groomed and disinfected and gym mats were replaced.
- River HomeLink/Maple Grove Primary: Crews replaced the heating and cooling system and controls. A gym wall was removed to allow for music and drama productions at River. In addition, a former middle school lab at Maple Grove was renovated to make a new, larger classroom.
- Tukes Valley large gym: PE students can now enjoy a 32-foot rock climbing wall .
- Amboy Middle School: Numerous trees were removed from near buildings and play areas for safety reasons.
- Yacolt Primary: New flooring was installed in the kitchen area.
Thank you to all of our dedicated facilities and maintenance workers, as well as all of the local contractors, for making sure our students and staff have safe and welcoming schools!
