Family and Community Resource Center set to move into new location

Since 2016, the Family and Community Resource Center has been a vital part of Battle Ground Public Schools’ efforts to support students and families in need. Having outgrown their small office space on the CASEE campus, the FCRC will soon be moving to a more spacious location at the Lewisville campus west of Battle Ground High School.

“We have a lot of stuff. The program is really growing, so it will be so good to have a bigger space,” said Chelsea Ward, FCRC specialist for the district’s north schools.

In the seven years since the FCRC opened, over 6,200 students and families have been helped with things like temporary housing support, school supplies, transportation, fuel costs, tutoring, clothing, hygiene products and much more.

The FCRC also works closely with the Battle Ground Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to leverage community resources to help maintain quality education for all students in Battle Ground schools. BGeF already has office space at the Lewisville campus, so the new location will allow the FCRC to collaborate further with the foundation.

It will also greatly reduce the amount of back-and-forth FCRC staff have to do to move donated clothing from the CASEE campus to their storage area at Lewisville. 

In addition, parent outreach liaisons, who provide translation and interpretation, are located at Lewisville as well, which will further help assist families.

Said Ward, “We’re going to be right next door to the interpreters, which is really exciting because we have been seeing a higher influx of refugees from Ukraine and actually from Venezuela and Mexico this year.”

How you can help

Ward said donations of clothing are largely keeping up with demand, though they will always take more — especially warm clothing, socks and underwear as the winter months approach. Also needed are toiletries, such as soap, deodorant and feminine hygiene products.
