Capital levy information

Battle Ground Public Schools will have a three-year capital levy on the Feb. 13, 2024, special election ballot. Over the next two months, we will be providing facts about the levy here and on the district website.

Fact #3: The levy would increase access to hands-on learning in high-demand industries

Capital levy funding would be used, in part, to expand construction trades, culinary arts and health sciences programs in high school. This would include updated equipment, additional class space and enhanced coordination with local employers who provide work-based learning and dual credit opportunities for students.

Attend an upcoming community presentation on the levy

Voters will have an opportunity to learn about the levy in upcoming community presentations that will share facts about the levy.

  • Thursday, Jan. 25, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lewisville Campus, Room C-26, 406 NW Fifth Ave., Battle Ground, WA. This is an in-person presentation.
  • Monday, Jan. 29, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Webinar (link to join)

Both presentations are open to the public.

DISTRICT NEWS

Battle Ground school board recognized as Board of Distinction

Battle Ground Public Schools’ board of directors has once again been recognized as one of 34 Boards of Distinction for 2023-24 by the Washington State School Directors Association. Battle Ground was one of 14 boards recognized in the large district category (more than 9,000 students) and the only Clark County district to receive the honor this year. This is the fourth time in the past seven years the Battle Ground school board has received this award.

The Battle Ground board of directors was selected for its leadership of efforts to improve outcomes for each student. This work included approval of new curricula for English language arts, social studies and social and emotional learning. The new curricula replaced outdated materials and is designed to provide greater consistency throughout students’ time in school.

Prairie senior’s project adds new seating to outside of school

When Prairie High School senior and student body president Isabelle Morrell noticed some of the benches out in front of the school were getting a bit worn out, she decided to do something about it. “The concrete benches would fill up with water,” Morrell said, “and it just felt like a bad experience to me. I wanted coming to Prairie to be a good experience, so I started thinking about opportunities to change things.”

Morrell approached Principal Susannah Woehr with the idea of having new benches built. The school’s welding class took on the task of making frames for the benches and then Morrell and her dad added the wood at his workshop. “It actually makes me want to do even more for my school and more for the Associated Student Body to help make things better,” Morrell said.
