One-hour late start on Wednesday, Dec. 6

Schools will begin an hour late on Wednesday, Dec. 6, to allow time for teachers to work together to implement best practices of high-quality instruction. Students will be released at normal times.

Winter holiday schedule

Schools will be closed for winter break and the New Year’s holiday starting Monday, Dec. 18, through Monday, Jan. 1, 2023. School will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Right At School winter camps

Registration is open for Right At School winter camps happening Dec. 18-22 and Dec. 27-29. The theme of this year’s camps is “Gadgets and Gizmos.” Keep your child’s creativity going strong during the winter break as they design, develop and build clever contraptions under the supervision of Right At School’s trained educators. Both camps will be held at Captain Strong Primary from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The cost is $50 per day. Visit the Right At School website for more information on signing up.

Facts about the Feb. 13 capital levy

Proposition no. 7 will appear on the Feb. 13, 2024, special election ballot. Learn more about the capital levy and what the funding would be used for if approved by voters.

Fact #2: The capital levy would pay for roof repairs and updating heating/cooling systems

A number of roofs and heating/cooling systems are at or near the end of their warranty period , leading to growing issues with leaks and difficulties making repairs due to obsolete parts. Funding from the capital levy would be used in part to address some of these issues.

Registration opens soon for middle school girls soccer and boys basketball

Registration will be opening soon for middle school students interested in participating in girls soccer or boys basketball. Registration opens three weeks prior to the start of practices (Dec. 11 for girls soccer and Jan. 8 for boys basketball). Students participating in sports must have a completed sports physical before practices begin (physical clearance is valid for 24 months). The completed sports physical form can be uploaded directly into Family ID. Sports physicals and the payment of any outstanding fees must be completed prior to the start of practices.

Nov. 27 school board meeting

BGPS’ board of directors conducted a regular board meeting on Monday, Nov. 27. The meeting included the 2022-23 end-of-year financial report, which showed a decline in fund balance that continues this year. A summary and video are available on the district website. The board will hold a special and regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Lewisville campus and streaming online.

Seeking employers for Industry Fair

Calling all businesses! Reserve a table at this free annual event that draws hundreds of students, families and community members actively seeking career opportunities or wanting to learn about local employers. The event is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, at Battle Ground High School. Register now.

2023-24 snow routes and weather information

You can view snow routes for the 2023-24 school year on the district website. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our winter weather guide (Español) (русский) and note whether your child’s school is in the north or south part of the district. Now is also a great time to verify that your contact information is up-to-date in Skyward (Family Access). On weather-impacted days, calls may begin going out as early as 5:30 a.m.

To learn about weather-related closures or delays, you can also call our information line at 360-885-5343 to check after 5:30 a.m. Additional weather information will be available on the district website and Facebook.

Get help with applying for college financial aid

Seniors and families looking for help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid can attend one of three upcoming in-person events:

Jan. 4, 2024: Battle Ground High School, 3-6 p.m.

Jan. 10, 2024: Battle Ground High School, 3-6 p.m.

Jan. 16, 2024: Prairie High School, 3-6 p.m.

At least three days prior to attending one of these events, parents/guardians and students must each set up an account by creating a FSA ID.

Report incidents anonymously with SafeSchools

Please report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our anonymous reporting system. Reporters can remain anonymous. Emergencies should always be reported to 911. Learn more about emergency procedures and safety protocols.

CAM Academy celebrates official dedication of new campus

Thank you to everyone who attended the official dedication of the new CAM Academy campus. At a public event on Monday, Nov. 27, Principal Ryan Cowl and students Anastasia Royenko and Elsa Bice helped cut the ribbon.

Thank you as well to Battle Ground Mayor Philip Johnson and Councilmembers Troy McCoy and Trisha Davis. We also appreciate our partners in this project, including Aries Building Systems, Accuset, the city of Battle Ground, Clark County and many, many more.
