Notice of School Board Vacancy

Battle Ground Public Schools is accepting applications for Director District 5 to fill the vacancy on the district’s Board of Directors. (If a board member rescinds his or her letter of resignation before the designated resignation date, the search for a new director will end.) The Board will accept applications for appointment to this position through June 9. Appointment is for approximately 18 months. The position will be up for election in the 2021 primary and general elections. Term of office for the winner of the November 2021 general election will be four years.

Time commitment

Board members are expected to attend regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of most months at 6 p.m., as well as special meetings and work sessions. Directors also participate in committees related to education and attend many school events throughout the year. Directors typically devote about 10 hours per week to board activities.

Description of School Board Director District 5 Area

Notice is hereby given that a vacancy currently exists on the Battle Ground Public Schools Board of Directors in Director District 5, which runs south from W. Main Street to Padden Parkway. The eastern edge runs along NE 92nd Avenue and NE 87th Avenue and  the western edge runs along the school district border.

You can use the Clark County Property Information Center to determine the Director District in which you reside.

Enter your address, click MapsOnline (located after the Property Identification Number), hover over Find Layer in the top right corner, enter “school district board director area” in the search bar.

Application Process

  1. Determine initial applicant qualifications:
  • The applicant must be a registered voter AND 
  • The applicant for Director District 5 must reside within Battle Ground Public Schools’ Director District 5.  (See Determine your Director District and boundary description below.)
  1. Send a letter of interest, resume and list of three references with contact information (no later than June 9) to Sandy U’Ren, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Directors, Battle Ground Public Schools Board of Directors, P. O. Box 200, Battle Ground, WA  98604, or e-mail to uren.sandy@battlegroundps.org. Applicants please include your full name and physical address (including zip code), and an email address and telephone number where you can be contacted during the day.
  2. Timeline: The Board will consider each applicant and select qualified candidates to interview on or about  June 11.*  It is the intention of the Board to select the new Director District 5 at a special meeting on or about June 11. The new Director District 5 is expected to be sworn in at the regular board meeting on Monday, June 22.

*Interviews for the vacancy will be in a videoconference and telephone meeting open to the public; however, evaluation of the qualifications of the candidates will occur in executive session.
