On Oct. 26, Greg McKelvey from Battle Ground High School and Hollie Amundson from CAM Academy were honored as Learn Here Heroes for 2023. Given by the nonprofit Identity Clark County, the award recognizes staff members and volunteers from school districts and higher education institutions across Southwest Washington.

Since 1996, McKelvey has nurtured the musical talents of thousands of students at Battle Ground High School and Chief Umtuch and Tukes Valley middle schools. Under his leadership, student ensembles have earned hundreds of accolades at festivals and competitions across the country. These awards include BGHS’ advanced jazz band earning first place at the Basically Basie Jazz Heritage Competition. Through his passion for music and connection, he has transformed the lives of many students.

Amundson has long been a CAM Academy volunteer and supporter, and recently served as president of the school’s parent group. She volunteers for many events, including field trips, field days, assemblies and other activities. The staff can always count on her, and with her positive, caring attitude, she forms strong connections with students. Said Principal Ryan Cowl, “I appreciate Hollie and know that she is a big reason why our students, staff and school community are thriving!”

Congratulations, Greg and Hollie, and thank you for everything that you do for students, families and staff members!
