Parent-teacher conferences, no late start Wednesday, March 20

Most schools will start at their regular Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday time on Wednesday, March 20. Most schools also will release three hours early on Wednesday and Thursday, March 20 and 21, to allow teachers to meet with parents and guardians of students determined to need additional support. These schedule changes do not apply to Summit View High School, River HomeLink, Battle Ground Virtual Academy or CAM Academy.

Parents can request a conference with any of their child’s teachers if they would like to discuss their child’s progress. Friday, March 22, will be a regular school day.

Action requested: Family preferred language

Beginning in fall 2024, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction will require school districts to report a family’s preferred language for communication, in addition to the language that they speak at home. Whether your family’s language is English or a language other than English, please make a selection in Skyward Family Access following these steps.

Review proposed new teaching and learning materials

Battle Ground Public Schools is considering new science curriculum for middle school students in grades 6-8, as well as new social studies curricula and a horticulture textbook at the high school level.

Over the past year, committees of parents, guardians, teachers and community members evaluated the new materials. You can now review the materials that were recommended and provide your input.

After reviewing the materials in person or online, take a brief survey to provide your input by Friday, April 5, at noon. This input will be considered as the proposed curricula are presented to the school board. A first reading of the proposed curricula is scheduled for the April 8 board meeting. If approved, the new curricula would be used starting in the 2024-25 school year.

The Chief Umtuch team earned four first-place finishes at the regional event on March 9, along with three second-place finishes, one third place and one fourth place.

“I’m always surprised at the wide variety of the topics that my students choose for their NHD entries, but not surprised by the creativity and effort that they bring to their projects,” Doughty said. “I am so proud that each of my students could share their love of learning and be recognized for their hard work.”
