Facts about the Feb. 13 capital levy

At a recent meeting, the Battle Ground school board unanimously approved putting Proposition no. 7 on the Feb. 13, 2024, special election ballot. Over the next few months, we’ll provide information about the capital levy and what the funding would be used for if approved by voters.

Fact #1: The capital levy would help to fund increased security at school buildings.

This would include enhancements such as new surveillance cameras, lighting upgrades, entryway improvements, better wireless technology and more.

Visit the district website to learn more about the capital levy.

Highly capable/gifted student referrals

Students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels as defined by state criteria may be tested for Battle Ground Public Schools’ highly capable/gifted student program. The Aspire program is accepting testing referrals through Dec. 1, 2023. Any student currently in kindergarten through 11th grade may be referred. A completed referral form with a parent or guardian signature is required for testing. Referral packets are available now.

Testing will take place in January and February during the school day at the student’s school. Parents and guardians will be notified of their child’s testing date after submitting a referral. Students who are identified for the Aspire program will begin to receive services in the 2024-2025 school year. For more information about the Aspire program, please email aspire@battlegroundps.org.

What you need to know about vaping among youth

Inhaling and exhaling the aerosol produced by an electronic vapor device, also known as vaping, carries health risks. Vaping products can include nicotine, chemicals, marijuana or other drugs that can affect students’ learning, attention and self-control. While most youth nationwide are choosing not to vape, we are concerned whenever a student chooses to use these products. Read about how the district helps students make healthy choices, how parents and guardians can help teens and consequences when a student uses vaping products at school.
